Its sad that ‘science’ should descend into this…
‘The Carbon Brief and any other website perpetuating this smear should issue a retraction.’
Its the very lack of proof in respect of global warming that requires these smears to perpetuate the myth.
The point which deserves publicising is that a well worn allegation is junk. That is that 97% of a large survey agree with the notion of man made global warming.
You have to question the motives of the perpetrators when they so massively misrepresent facts. Not to mention the gullibility of activists, academics journalists and politicians who swallow it.
From a poll of over 10,000 scientists only 3000 respond and of those only 75 out of 77 claim to be climate scientists. So from this 75 out of 10,000 becomes 97%. As ‘Climate Consensus Opiate’ say ….
The original number contacted was 10,157 and of those, 69% decided they didn’t want any part of it, but they were the original target population. When the figure of 75 believers is set against that number, we get a mere 0.73% of the scientists they contacted who agreed with their loaded questions.
Watts Up With That are reporting that the BBC are reporting…
‘Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said he had asked the government’s chief scientific adviser to assess whether the country was experiencing a “step change” in weather patterns due to climate change and whether it needed to spend more money on winter preparations.’
This ought to concentrate the scientific advisor’s mind. Are we going to expect warming weather or cooling weather?
Hammond has asked absolutely the right question. Our unpreparedness for future cold events rests entirely on the shoulders of the chief scientific advisor. If I were him I would recommend a Royal Commission into the global warming claims.
WUWT reports that the UK is using up its supplies of road grit at a prodigious rate. That makes it a useful proxy for ‘climate change’, which in this instance is a useful alternative for ‘there is no such thing as global warming’.
As airports grind to a halt, as roads are closed thanks to jack-knifed lorries, as snow snow and more snow keeps us prisoners in our own homes … where is the met office? Where were the dire warnings of doom and disaster from the University of East Anglia?
Gatwick Airport proudly says its got snow clearing equipment arriving any day soon. Why did it not order them 3 months ago?
What the current climate shows us that far and away the worst that the future holds is global cooling and what we have to face up to is that we are in between ice ages and the only certainty is that its going to get colder in future.
Sadly the bigotry and self interests of alleged ‘scientists’ have let us down. Blinded by their self justification they are not advising government to prepare for the inevitable bite back of nature. Instead of investing (?) billions in wind farms we should just be spending a few million on snow ploughs and a bit of salt.
Global warming has just claimed its first confirmed victim. Tragically its a violent and disturbed protester who invaded the Discovery Channel’s HQ and took hostages. Ultimately we must be grateful there is only one victim, it could have been much worse.
His demands were,
Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!
Jay Lee of San Diego said he experienced an
‘‘awakening” when he watched former Vice President Al Gore’s environmental documentary ‘‘An Inconvenient Truth.”
Sadly we must not forget Dr James Hansen’s recent call for civil disobedience.
Has it come to this?
The BBC’s ‘Coast‘ programme is currently eulogising over Denmark’s massive investment in wind-farms. Needless to say its all good stuff.
Saving the planet and all that.
But what the BBC chose not to tell you is that in 2005 Denmark’s grid used 50% more coal generated power than in 2004. Even in the North sea the wind is not that reliable. Oh, and Danish electricity is the most expensive in Europe. Indeed at the last count and despite all this effort Denmark still has a massive conventional power generating infrastructure and that pollution and carbon dioxide emissions have risen (by 36% percent in 2006 alone). Whilst only 6% of Danish consumption comes from wind, very often Denmark is reduced to exporting much of its available wind power at a loss and continues to be reliant on imported energy (hydro and nuclear from Sweden Norway and Germany).
Nor will you find the BBC quoting a Danish report saying that Danes pay the highest residential electricity rates in the EU and that the cost of saving a ton of carbon dioxide between 2001 and 2008 has averaged US$ 124. The report estimates that 90% of jobs were transferred from other technology industries to the wind industry, and that only 10% of wind industry jobs were newly created jobs, and that as a result, Danish GDP is US$ 270 million lower than it would have been without wind industry subsidies.
Given all the subsidies you can understand why Denmark has a vested interest in promoting its home grown wind farm industry.
Behind the Great Pay Wall of Fleet Street, we find that The Times has further comment on the IPCC’s recent defenestration in an interesting article by Matt Ridley, author of The Rational Optimist. It deserves wider circulation because it reminds us of the events of earlier in the year
Of course one way round the great pay wall is to go down to your newsagents, there you will find Mr Ridley saying, ‘this discredited science body must be purged’. It has to be said that ‘discredited’ is putting it a bit mildly. Its not just that the IPCC published a misprint worthy of the Reverend Spooner whilst scaremongering about the Himalayas or that it regularly quoted rumours propagated by lobby groups as if gospel.
No; its the way the IPCC have treated people who had the temerity to offer a different view which disgusts the most. Mr Ridley quotes instances where academics such as Ross McKitrick and Pat Michaels, who legitimately (and correctly) questioned the temperature record, had their contributions first ignored and then falsely rebutted.
But perhaps most shockingly of all Mr Ridely reminds us of the University of East Anglia ‘Climategate’ scandal where amongst other now infamous emails Professor Phil Jones referred directly to these papers in the words,
‘I cannot see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep them out somehow – even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!‘
I am not sure which is the more shocking; the fact that Jones can bring himself to corrupt science in this way, the fact that he is still in his job or the fact that Jones is allowed to be a ‘co-coordinating lead author and pass judgement on his own papers as well as those of his critics’.
Mr Ridley reminds us of these things and more (‘unilateral redrafting of reports by lead authors’ and the ‘writing of sexed-up Summaries for Policy Makers’ are stand out items) but his final line sums it all up,
‘we run the risk of putting a tourniquet round our collective necks to stop a nosebleed’
That sounds pretty much like a noose to me.
The halo of the ‘new religion’ is tarnished. For too long the words that have come down from the gargantuan mountaintop of the IPCC have been taken as gospel and the morals of its leadership and their acolytes have been considered higher than those of the Saints.
Well that opinion will need revising as leading national science academies shred the IPCC’s dogma into tiny pieces.
‘Qualitative probabilities should be used to describe the probability of well-defined outcomes only when there is sufficient evidence.’
‘We found in the summary for policymakers that there were two kinds of errors that came up — one is the kind where they place high confidence in something where there is very little evidence. The other is the kind where you make a statement … with no substantive value, in our judgment.’
We must hope these God like figures are now brought down from their clouds of glory to meet their Judgement Day and their gullible disciples have the scales lifted from their eyes.
Hallelujah brothers and sisters!
That great campaigner against modern day global warming indulgences (and who diligently translates the language of the warmists into something we mere supplicants can understand) – Anthony Watt – has much more HERE. The Reformation of a corrupt science continues; carefully audited facts should be the source of revealed knowledge.
The big splash for The Independent is to say that the vital plankton in the oceans is declining thanks, inevitably, to global warming.
The report does not prove that, rather puts 2 and 2 together in a manner familiar with followers of the CRU debacle.
In fact what the report does is test the clarity of the oceans (as a proxy) and conclude that the change is due to plankton decline and that decline is due to rising temperatures.
“The Secchi disk transparency measurement is perhaps one of the oldest and simplest of all measurements. But there is grave danger of errors in such measurements where a water telescope is not utilized, as well as in the presence of water color and inorganic turbidity (source: Vollenweider and Kerekes, 1982)”
Phytoplankton has survived climate (and CO2) variations way in excess of what we have now. But don’t let that spoil a clever Indy front page splash
Further comment from more analytical minds than mine pour more, err … cold water on the splashes made by the Indy.
Australian biologists have estimated that about,
”12,000 sperm whales in the Southern Ocean each defecate around 50 tonnes of iron into the sea every year after digesting the fish and squid they hunt. The iron is a terrific food for phytoplankton – marine plants that live near the ocean surface and which suck up CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis.”
Those Japanese whalers and their Norwegian cousins have a lot to answer for. Can’t help think Greenpeace are missing a trick.
Watts Up With that have a neat post which sums up all the dangers we face in a world where life is just too complex for us oiks.
They point to a quote by former Senator Tim Wirth which speaks for itself.
“we’ve got to ride the global-warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing — in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”
It sums up the whole mindset of the climategate cheats.
As WUWT point out “Not surprisingly, after Wirth left the Senate and the Clinton administration he ended up at the United Nations.”
Like I said, it speaks for itself, so I will save my breath.
This blogpost and the accompanying pictures say all there is to be said about the current scares over ‘melting’ polar icecaps.
There can be no doubt that if pictures like the one above had been taken yesterday rather than 50 years ago there would have been an almighty outcry over man made global warming.
As it is its clear that ice cover fluctuated wildly in the past.
Interestingly even The Independent starts to question the influence the Sun might be having on our world temperatures.
Is this the big chill?
Could the Sun play a greater role in recent climate change than has been believed?
No living scientist has seen it behave this way. There are no sunspots.
Our Sun is the primary force of the Earth’s climate system … It lies behind every aspect of the Earth’s climate … When the Sun has gone quiet like this before, it coincided with the earth cooling slightly … it could alter all our predictions of climate change … our understanding of climate change might not be anywhere near as good as we thought.
The Daily Telegraph environment correspondent (report 22 April) is happy to unquestioningly follow the line that ‘global warming’ has stopped because of pollution. And happy to take on board that it is pollution that is allowing plants to absorb more CO2, rather than perhaps natural mutation and adaptation.
Nowhere does she mention that current declining activity of the Sun in an extended Solar Minimum just might be having an effect, just as higher Solar activity caused temperatures to rise previously. We are now told, against all previous propaganda, that Antarctic sea ice is expanding, though she still peddles the factual untruth that Arctic ice is ‘melting’.
Incredibly she is trying to persuade us that, “The increase in the amount of carbon dioxide…may have helped to slow global warming”, yet still says further CO2 emissions will cause increased global warming. She and the global warming brigade are clearly between a rock and a hard place, with their predictions becoming hopelessly unravelled.
Their might just be a simple and sound explanation for temperature changes; our Sun. To admit that though would ruin the tax raising plans of politicians worldwide, the carbon swap profits of Al gores friends and the lucrative grants of opportunistic scientists and universities
CO2 is set to be labelled a “public endangerment” by the Obama Administration.
The US environment Protection Agency …
is proposing to find that the current and projected concentrations of the mix of six key greenhouse gases—carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6)—in the atmosphere threaten the public health and welfare of current and future generations. This is referred to as the endangerment finding.
The Administrator is further proposing to find that the combined emissions of CO2, CH4, N2O, and HFCs from new motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines contribute to the atmospheric concentrations of these key greenhouse gases and hence to the threat of climate change. This is referred to as the cause or contribute findings
So be aware that when you breath out you are endangering the environment, destroying the planet. No joke there’s 6 billion of us and rising. Rising so much that environmentalists are suggesting we halve our population. No guesses for who would be last on the list to be euthanased.
But interestingly the EPA do not mention the biggest green house gas component. Water Vapour. That would stop you boiling the kettle or going out for a jog.
CO2 of course is a nutrient. Trees breath it in and breath out oxygen.
A whole range of biomatter gives out CO2 every day in massive quantities – dwarfing that which humans give out. Strange that this outpouring is said to be in ‘balance’ somehow, but human emissions are ring fenced out of the carbon cycle. The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is 380 parts per million. PER MILLION. Put 1 million ping pong balls in a swimming pool – take out 380 of them, paint ’em red and throw them back in.
Go ahead find them. That’s the scale of the problem.
Oh and the small matter of the fact that temperatures have actually fallen over the last 10 years, in sterling defiance of the flawed models of the beleaguered warmists.
OK – its a pretty pathetic title, but not as pathetic as the Met Office forecasts,
which turn out to be junk – reads this
Ruth Lea over at ConservativeHome bemoans the winter weather and the disappearing ‘Global Warming’ – well there are a lot of people with egg ice on their faces this winter.
The Met Office were predicting (another) mild winter this year. How wrong can you get? I guess its easy when you are locked into a lucrative disaster based scenario mind-set.
The IPCC’s ‘forecasts are junk as well
“another scientist has come forward with a press release saying that not only did their audit of IPCC forecasting procedures and found that they “violated 72 scientific principles of forecasting”, but that “The models were not intended as forecasting models and they have not been validated for that purpose.””
It is interesting, but not likely to get much publicity on the BBC, that the arch proponent, the originator, of man made global warming is having the rug pulled from under him by his own organisation, NASA.
Read on …
“Dr. John S. Theon, the former supervisor of James Hansen, NASA’s vocal man-made global warming fear soothsayer, has now publicly declared himself a skeptic and declared that Hansen “embarrassed NASA” with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was “was never muzzled.” Theon joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears.”
The thing we should remember is that temperatures are lower now than they were 10 years ago.
The climate changes – what a surprise! No money, no taxes to be gained from accepting that.
